What is OPIN (Outreach to Pets in Need)
and how did it get started?
Mission and Objectives
OPIN was co-founded by shelter volunteers and is an all-volunteer registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. Our mission is to promote adoption of homeless animals, and to provide assistance to pets in need through medical treatment, training, and education. We provide solutions to prevent pet homelessness. OPIN supports pets at Stamford Animal Care & Control and beyond through a suite of welfare services.
Our long-term goal is to have 100% of Connecticut shelter pets find homes. Stamford Animal Care & Control, reached a 98% adoption rate in 2007 and 2008, thanks in part to OPIN financing the medical, training and dietary needs of the resident pets; investing in programs that increase adoptions; providing educational programs and information to help decrease return and surrender rates, the number of lost pets, and the number of future litters. OPIN also helps pets and pet guardians beyond the shelter as a way to expand our outreach to pets in need.
